My son's school just stopped allowing school time for borrowing in Years 5 and 6. I am tryng to garner some research to show the importance of borrowing and assisting children in choosing books. My Kindy child comes home with books more appropriate for high school - so they aren't do that well either!!
If you know of any research I would love to hear about it - as the more ammunition I have the better!
Stacey
AustraliaTL Tarrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01797996145125804160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6798440099232048221.post-17711104315370975832009-07-08T18:42:30.609+08:002009-07-08T18:42:30.609+08:00Hi Dianne,

Not sure what the set up has been in the past but the previous Librarian told me they were the ones that needed encouragement. What are your thoughts on Library times, is 30 mins enough? I have had 20/30 and 45 min times at different schools and find it depends on class sizes but I wonder if there is an optimum time?
Cheers
FionaMrs. C.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06144877854946812339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6798440099232048221.post-53618559198973329712009-07-07T08:51:18.604+08:002009-07-07T08:51:18.604+08:00There is no doubt that the 'enabling adult'...There is no doubt that the 'enabling adult' (I think this was Susan La Marca's term)is critical in creating a reading culture in schools. The work you are doing with parents and teachers, and the flexibility with which you undertake your role, really reflects this, Dianne.
Now to hook more English teachers in...
I wonder if a Readers Cup type idea (on the SLAV Bright Ideas blog, brilliantly run by Judith Way) would help??
Best wishes, you are doing an incredible job with your new library.
LyndaLyndahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11821912862021121687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6798440099232048221.post-45637441077433052692009-07-05T11:33:38.310+08:002009-07-05T11:33:38.310+08:00Hi, Dianne,
